Who is in Control? God or man? Nature or God? Satan or God?
“For OF Him, and THROUGH Him, and TO Him, are ALL things to whom be glory for ever. Amen.”
Scriptures give us at least six principles which teach us that the Sovereignty of God in Providence runs throughout the word of God as the undergirding of all things and the salvation of His people!
It is impossible to have a hopeful sense of security, peace, stability, and assurance while living our lives in our present day, crazy, insane world without a knowledge and understanding and appreciation of the Sovereignty of God in providence!
Do we have trouble during these days of Covid-19 and the Riots and Terrorism expressed during the Protests , putting it all together into one coherent system? Do we understand God’s message of hope and grace that is in the Gospel (Good News)? Point: God controls all things!
I. GOD HAS A DEFINITE PLAN AND PURPOSE FOR THIS WORLD!
“He is of ONE MIND, and who can turn HIM? And what HIS soul desireth, even that HE does.”
Catch this: God HAS a plan! He is of ONE MIND. His plan is unchangeable. God’s plan will Succeed and His Plan INCLUDES ALL THINGS! Nothing escapes His plan.
EPHESIANS 1:11 – “…..BEING PREDESTINATED ACCORDING TO THE PURPOSE (OR PLAN) OF HIM WHO WORKS ALL THINGS AFTER THE COUNSEL OF HIS OWN WILL.”
ROMANS 8:28 – “And we know that ALL THINGS work together for good to them that love God, to them who are CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE.”
The Pelagian (people who deny the above scriptures), denies that God has a plan. The Arminian (most of the evangelical community today) denies the plan is specific and inclusive of ALL THINGS.
Notice some other scriptures for your study;
- God does things DELIBERATELY – PSALM 115:3
- God does as HE PLEASES – Psalm 135:6
- God does ALL THINGS according to His own Eternal knowledge, power and desire – Isaiah 46:10; and Acts 15:18
OTHER VERSES: Deut. 2:30; 1 Samuel 16:14 – These will not fit the modern systamatic theology and statements of faith today.
A classic illustration of the sovereignty of God in accomplishing HIS purposes is found in 11 Samuel 17: 1-14.
vs. 1 – 3 – Good counsel is given.
vs. 4 – Absalom is ready to act.
vs. 5-13 – Bad council is given deliberately.
vs. 14 – God purposed Absalom to believe a lie.
